Recurring Events
Regular Closed Meetings
The Society meets on the second Tuesday of every month — doors open from 6:30pm, meeting starts at 7:00pm. Only open to magicians who are club members or vetted guests. Member performances, jam sessions, feedback on new material, and workshops.
Public Open Meetings
Once a quarter the committee opens a meeting to non-magicians. Members bring a friend or family member with no magic background along for an evening of performances and good company — and it is the easiest way for an interested magician to see what WASM is about.
Guest Lectures
Visiting magicians share technique and theory. These may fall on a different date from the regular meeting. Lecture fees are free or subsidised for members, with a full fee for non-members.
Fred DeCampi Trophy
A performance competition any member can enter, open to the public, celebrating the most creative act — with a people’s choice award — in memory of our longest-serving member.
Magic Swap Meet
An annual gathering to buy, sell, and trade magic apparatus, books, and ephemera.
Annual General Meeting
The Society’s formal AGM, where committee positions are elected and the year ahead is set.
Dinner & Awards Night
Our annual celebration each November — dinner, ceremony, and the presentation of WASM’s major awards.
Christmas in July
A mid-year festive meeting with a themed gift swap (~$20) and members performing their favourite Christmas-inspired magic effects.
Between Meetings
The conversation carries on in our Facebook group — session notes, last-minute changes, and the occasional argument about the best way to force a card. Members receive the full calendar in The Western Wand.
