Take the Oath

Join WASM

Membership in WASM is earned, not purchased. Here is exactly what the process looks like.

Membership Categories

Who Can Apply

Ordinary Member

Open to anyone aged 16 and above with a genuine interest in the Art of Magic, as an amateur or professional. Ordinary Members have full voting rights at general meetings, per WASM's constitution.

Associate (Youth) Member

Ages 12–15 are welcome, accompanied by a parent, guardian, or assigned responsible adult at all times. Associate Members have full access to meetings but, per the constitution, do not have voting rights. We're unable to admit members younger than 12 except at the committee's sole discretion.

The Process

Eight Steps to Membership

01

Attend Three Meetings

Come along as a guest so we can get to know each other — and you can see whether WASM is the right fit.

02

Secure Two Nominations

Find two existing members willing to nominate and endorse your application.

03

Audition — Three Tricks

Perform three magic tricks for the members. It's a very friendly audition — nobody's trying to catch you out.

04

Club Vote

Members vote on whether to accept your application.

05

Take the Oath

If accepted, you'll be asked to take a formal oath to protect our magical secrets — a tradition unbroken since 1922.

06

Settle Your Fees

A once-only joining fee, plus the annual membership fee to WASM.

07

Begin Participating

Attend meetings, join a workshop night, and start building your place in the Society.

08

Keep the Secrets

For as long as you're a member — and beyond.
